Fair go Australia

Recently I heard a prominent Australian condone copying and taking over the good ideas of others. I felt so disappointed! It seems to me, if we are going to able to meet the current challenges of addressing climate change, we also need to have our moral conduct and priorities in order. We are, as a global society, ready for a big change in our perception and thinking about what truly matters, especially in regard to the emerging reality of climate change. Our diverse personal and business relationships and our quest to develop more sustainable ways to do business and be more efficient with our natural resources time and energy, of necessity, require us to do things more thoughtfully and ethically. In doing so, we need to be very mindful of what we are prepared to sign off on, as acceptable behaviors and standards. One of the most perilous and mindless conditions that has emerged in recent times, along with an increasingly dumbed down level of human consciousness, is one of rampant greed.

The word ‘greed‘, defined in the English dictionary as an excessive desire for food, wealth, has helped create inequitable conditions for many on our planet for a very long time. In order to find more effective ways to survive the current challenges we confront we need to look within to find the strength, courage and inspiration to do things differently. Finding and developing one’s own creativity and ingenuity stimulates a truly innovative population, economy and nation.

The alternative is a spiritual wasteland created by condoning negative behavior such as plagiarism that speaks of copying and/or stealing the work of others. Ethically speaking, a multitude of inequities develop out of such a scenario. For example, some folk may have done the hard yards to develop a creative project or product that clearly has excellent merit/potential. Others on the lookout recognize a successful idea and decide to take it over, making a mint in the process. The originators of the project may have had insufficient resources to take it to the next stage and lose out to predators unfairly stalking new game. As a result, the former are not compensated for the research, concept and all the time, effort and courage involved in developing the concept/product.

This scenario spells GREED, in capital letters.

Creative folk who experience these kinds of thoughtless acts are frequently devastated by the insensitivity of those capable of such indulgences. These are the kinds of actions that can cause inequitable unsustainable living conditions.

Let’s protect each other’s creative rights and genuinely move on to the higher moral ground of supporting the notion of ‘fair go Australia.’
